We had a very good turn-out for our dry-stone walling weekend to rebuild the dilapidated churchyard wall in the pretty hamlet of Lillington just south of Sherborne March 5th and 6th 2016.
With 17 people on the Saturday and 11 on the Sunday and with a preparation day during the previous week to clear the debris and excavate the buried stone, we managed to reconstruct the wall to over 2 feet high. The weather was cold but stayed mainly dry, the villagers supplied us generously with cakes and hot drinks for refreshments, our Dry-stone Walling Association trainer, Sally Fielding, was tireless and very patient and everyone seemed very satisfied and happy with what we had achieved. Have a look at the photos on our Flickr site.
Saturday April 9th has been scheduled for a third day to complete the wall – please let us know if you would like to join in. email: nigel@eucan.org.uk
The EuCAN Dorset Midweek Volunteers are working on a wall south of Martinstown at Corton Down – if you would like to be involved in this please see the contact details on the DMV page.
