Programme now available for Springhead weekend, east Dorset, July 18 - 20 2014
EuCAN is holding a packed weekend of activities at Springhead in east Dorset – an idyllic study centre on the edge of Cranborne Chase, with the chalk downland reserves of Fontmell Down, Clubmen’s Down and Melbury Beacon within walking distance. It is open to everyone to join in and is intended to act as a reunion for participants on previous placements, to offer further training opportunities, and to help raise funds for our training courses, green therapy work and conservation projects. As well as walks and talks and the training courses, we will hold the company AGM on the Saturday afternoon and a Barn Dance on the Saturday night.
The weekend will include
a day course in botanical identification and chalk downland habitat creation with Bryan Edwards, senior surveyor for the Dorset Environmental Records Centre.
two one-day courses in butterfly identification and ecology with visits to chalk downland and damp grassland/scrub reserves and covering butterfly monitoring by transect walking
a one day workshop in Bumble Bee identification, ecology and conservation presented by Richard Comont of the Bumble Bee Conservation Trust.
In addition we shall be putting out moth traps on both nights so there will be plenty of opportunity to get to know a good selection of summer species.
There will be residential accommodation at the Centre and camping available in the orchard. Contact us if you would like to take part – it’s a beautiful place, the food is delicious and these weekends are always great fun!
