Woodland glade maintenance at Monmouth Hill, Milton Abbas Butterfly Conservation Dorset branch volunteer workday.

Monmouth Hill above Milton Abbas

There has been a large amount of Ash dieback in the woodland plantation either side which has been cleared by FE which may to be to our advantage as it produces a mosaic of woodland clearings which will be good for butterflies. Out of this disaster, it would be good to see some benefit!

This will be our third visit to this site and we plan to continue to cut and collect the grass and bramble in the clearings to prevent it becoming more rank, so brushcutters and rakers are needed. Second on the task list is to clear the woodland glades of brash created by the ash dieback clearance to enable a butterfly transect to be set up for next year.
Meet at 9.30am and park 50m inside the Fishmore Hill Forestry England gate to the woodland where there will an area for parking. 4-wheel drive vehicles may be able to drive up the track to the site otherwise we will walk, Follow the track marked by yellow pegs on the google map.
