Drone shot taken by Fred in May – shows clearly the extent of the invading scrub (and also how dry everything was, even by May)
We shall be working with the NT today to clear the invading bramble scrub in the fields between the Spittles landslips and the Charmouth Road carpark to prevent the rich butterfly habitat being suffocated. PLEASE JOIN US IF YOU CAN!
Wood Whites were seen in this area in the summer and the National Trust rangers have recently begun working on these slopes; we shall be joining them with brushcutters and rakes. Although it seems to have been a good year for Wood Whites, this species is now only hanging on in Dorset on the Lyme Regis undercliffs and nearby sites.
We are hoping that our volunteers and contractors will join us for the day to help us with this clearance work . ALL WELCOME!
We shall be working on the area beside the steps down from the carpark later in the winter season.
Meet at 9am at the dogleg on Timber Hill above the Spittles to walk down to the worksites in the fields.
Please note: if you park in the Charmouth Road carpark, there is a charge for parking there.
Please let us know if you are intending to take part (email nigelspring@yahoo.co.uk) and make sure you leave your mobile number so that we can contact you if the plans have to be changed.
