Silklake Quarry (Bumpers Lane development) landscaping and invasives control

Silklake Quarry Conservation site, Portland

We will be doing major landscaping in an area that we cleared and burnt in the late winter. We have a 13 tonne excavator booked to scrape off and remove up to 30cm of top soil which will be replaced by limestone chips and re-seeded with locally sourced seed of the calcareous Portland flora – vetches etc.

We shall be removing as much as possible of the root material of the invasive species in the soil that is scraped off – there will be plenty for us unmechanised humans to do!

Meet at the entrance to the site at 9am, with refreshments and lunch.  Loppers, secateurs and bowsaws may be useful if you have them, but we can supply tools. It helps with planning (but not essential) if you let me know that you are aiming to join us.
