The Terrace Meadow is a fascinating patch of limestone grassland adjacent to Sherborne’s Terrace Playing Fields sports facilities. It is of particular interest as the soil is unusual for the area, and supports flowers (including orchids), butterflies and other species not generally seen in the locality. It is managed by Sherborne Town Council and EuCAN CIC.

Today we will be cutting and raking up the rank end-of-summer vegetation on the road verge at the Terraces SNCI. The arisings will be loaded into a trailer and removed.

During the hot dry summer, the Creeping Thistle on the lower area of the Terraces has spread very widely and very vigorously; we will be cutting and removing this too, hoping to reduce its vigour….

Teasels are of huge value for wildlife, for their nectar in the summer and for their seeds in the autumn which the finches enjoy.
