Today EuCAN and Butterfly Conservation volunteers will be working at Silklake Quarry behind the Bumpers Lane development aiming to remove more of the unwanted ‘weed’ species in the areas that have been reseeded with local wildflower seed – Canadian Fleabane, Buddleia, Teasel and Willowherb that are threatening to smother the limestone loving species that we want to see established there.
We also hope to tackle the rampant growth of Clematis has spread this summer prior to treating the regrowth with herbicide.
The newly profiled slopes where the rocks collapsed earlier this year are going to be re-seeded later in October using local seed collected this summer from nearby wildlife sites. More detail in due course.
Meet at 9am at the carparking area (see map) or walk up to find us if you arrive later. Bring refreshments and a picnic lunch.
