Opening up the grassland habitat in the Sydling valley for chalk downland butterflies

Lamperts Farm, Sydling St Nicholas

Dingy Skipper Erynnis tages

Today we will be clearing a band of bramble and thorn scrub which is threatening to suffocate the chalk downland at the foot of these slopes.

This work is being funded by the Farming in Protected Landscapes grant (FIPL). If anyone is available to join us to help us rake off the brash (and burn it if conditions are suitable) please let me know. nigelspring@yahoo.co.uk

We’ll meet by the holiday accommodation for a 9am start and walk up to the work area. Bring your lunch and refreshments and work gloves and stout boots. We can provide tools, but please bring loppers, bowsaw and secateurs if you have them.
