POSTPONED until later in the month Milborne Port - bramble and thorn scrub management at East Hill

East Hill, east of Milborne Port

East Hill is a fabulously biodiverse stretch of land above Milborne Port with some rare butterfly species, but it is being rapidly encroached by bramble, gorse and thorn. Last season’s pony grazing hugely improved the condition of the habitat. This will be our first visit of this winter season. We shall continue to open up the public footpath and the slopes above it, clearing the blackthorn and bramble scrub from the areas towards the southern end where the Marsh Fritillaries and other scarce species flourish.

Meet at 9am in the top laybys to walk down to the footpath onto the hill or park at the bottom and walk.

See the map for directions (click on link at the top of this notice) and park in one of the areas marked with a purple peg.
Wear stout footwear, tough gloves and thorn proof clothes. Bring lunch and drinks – also bowsaw and/or loppers if you have them – otherwise we can supply all the necessary tools. There will be chainsaw and brushcutter work so if you are a trained operator, please bring your PPE.
