Broadcroft Quarry Butterfly Reserve, Portland - conservation workparty
We created a number of new scrapes on the reserve last year to encourage the Silver-studded Blue butterflies.
Today we working with the Dorset Countryside Volunteers at Broadcroft Quarry Butterfly Reserve, continuing to cut the invasive Buddleia and thorn scrub and burning the arisings if the wind direction is westerly – taking the smoke away from the nearby houses.
The Dorset branch of Butterfly Conservation and EuCAN will be collaborating on regular tasks on a variety of sites on Portland and will always welcome new volunteers!
Meet at
9am next to the recycling centre at Broadcroft Quarry or walk to find us if you arrive later. Bring loppers, bowsaw and secateurs if you have them – and your refreshments and lunch.
