EuCAN logging project 2013

Over the last eighteen months, we have cut, split, extracted and sold around 140 cubic metres of oak and softwood logs from Butterfly Conservation’s north Dorset reserve at Alners Gorse. It has been a struggle as this must be one of the wettest muddiest places in Dorset and we still have more loads to sell, but we are very pleased with the achievement. Many thanks to all the chainsaw operators, the axemen and axewomen and everyone else involved.

We have also used a local mobile sawmill on several occasions to process some of the bigger trunks into materials for benches, stools, nestboxes and other timber.
