EuCAN annual gathering and AGM weekend July 7th and 8th 2023 Photos and moth list

Over 40 EuCAN members, contractors and volunteers joined us over the 7th and 8th of July at Ryewater Nursery for our first real get-together since the onset of the pandemic. Some camped and enjoyed a beautiful evening of pizzas and moth trapping, then many local people came over on the Saturday morning for the analysis of the moth catch and a guided walk round this inspiring site.

After a delicious organic BBQ lunch cooked by Debbie and Malcolm Halfacre, with salads and puddings made by Alex from Feed The Soul in Godmansterne, and following a (very brief!) AGM, part of the group went to Alners Gorse Butterfly Reserve to look at the management there before dispersing after tea.

The moth tally came to an amazing 171 species, a reflection of the richness of the variety and richness of the habitats at Ryewater. The species list can be viewed here.

All the photos from the event can be viewed on the EuCAN Flickr site here.

We are very grateful to Clive Farrell for welcoming us to Ryewater for this hugely successful event and to Wren Franklin the site manager for being such a good host.
