Curtis Fields Site of Nature Conservation Interest, Weymouth

off Cockles Lane

We (EuCAN and Butterfly Conservation Dorset) have been asked to help carry out habitat management work on the Site of Nature Conservation Interest beside the new housing development at Curtis Fields. There is a lot of catching up to do particularly on reducing the scrub which is rapidly closing up the network of glades and clearings which are vital for the wildflowers and insects.
This will be our first meeting and in future we shall aim to meet on the third Friday of each month. We will normally aim to start at 9am but today we are starting at 10am.
Meet at 10am in Cockles Lane or walk along the lane to the entrance path into the Site of Nature Conservation Interest – see map.

We will provide the tools for the work, but please bring your own mug, hot drinks and snacks, your packed lunch and working gloves with you. If you have a bowsaw, secateurs and/or loppers please bring them.

If you are a chainsaw or brushcutter user, you will need your own PPE and you should have attended a refresher course in the last five years.
My phone number in case you cannot find us is 07981 776767.
If you would like to help, please get in touch by email or text. We would like to build up a team of volunteers for this site so please get in touch if you would like to be involved.
